Our Chairman Frank Fahy was elected unopposed as Mayor of Skibbereen at the AGM of the Town Council on the 21st of June 2011. Frank has already engaged on a campaign of ensuring the progress of the Fibre Optic Broadband system in the toen and organised a presentation on the subject within six days of his election. The presentation by Conal Henry, CEO of E/net, the Government appointed Company to wholesale the system was well attended by a good cross-section of the business community of Skibbereen and many very favourable comments were heard on the night and after.
It is hoped that the system will be taken up by substantial number of the 205 businesses in the town that are within 50 metres of the Fibre cable. The system has huge potential to develop existing businesses and attract others to the town.
